A REVIEW ON PHYSICO- CHEMICAL PROPERTIES AND HEALTH BENEFITS OF JACKFRUIT
Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) belonging to the family Moraceae. It is a freely available fruit mainly in India and adjoining continents. It is famous for its antibacterial,anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties. It contains many compounds like morin, cynomacurin, artocarpin, isoartocarpine, cyloartocarpine,
artocarpesin, oxydihydroartocarpesin, artocarpetin, norartocarpetin, cycloartinone, betulinicacid artocarpanone and heterophylol. These compounds can be useful in some of the human disorders and diseases like fever, boils, wounds, skin diseases, convulsions, constipation etc.Jackfruit possess many therapeutic qualities, which have been attributed to its wide range of physico-chemical applications. This review presents the physico-chemical properties and health benefits of Jackfruit.
